Week #2 - Amanda

Amanda really stepped it up with her entry for Team Button! Her amazing shots of the camera definitely earn her the 15 points for an artistic photo. But she also met the requirements for Extra Credit Challenges G (use a B&W photo as your focal point) and I (base your page around a number). The result is one very beautiful layout and a whoppin' 35 points for her team!

Week #2 - Melissa

Man, Melissa (Team Ribbon) was all over this challenge. I give a deadline extension and she's done in just a few short hours! Here is her super cute layout including some pretty awesome shots of the bananas in her very own yard!

Surprise!!!!!

Here's a little surprise to spice things up throughout the rest of the challenges...

Introducing ONGOING CHALLENGES! Below you will find a list of 10 challenges. At any point during the remaining 11 weeks, you can complete these challenges on your layout entries and you'll receive 10 additional points. You can put as many as you want on one layout, or do them one at a time. It does have to be a layout created specifically as one of your Elsie entries. It can not be a separate layout. Make sense? When you email your entry to me, just make sure to point out which challenge(s) is included on it.

Alright...the list is below. I've include challenge or page numbers for those of you with the book. (all of the verbage below is straight from Elsie - no credit taken here!)

Challenge A
Hand cut brackets from patterned paper to highlight your journaling (p. 157)

Challenge B
Look at your photograph for an embellishment you can replicate on your page (p. 129)

Challenge C
Create a title with just one letter! (p. 135)

Challenge D
Use fabric paint to write your title on a transparency. Allow the paint to dry, then attach your title over a photo (p. 138)

Challenge E
Use conversation with friends and family members as journaling on your page. (p. 140)

Challenge F
Decorative-edged scissors are one of my favorite classic scrapbooking supplies. I love adding a pinking or scalloped edge to just a small portion of my layout. My advice? A little bit of pretty edge goes a long way, so use this tool with care - but do use it! (#37)

Challenge G
Convert a favorite photograph into a black and white image, then use it as the focal point photo on your page. It will draw your viewer's eye right into the essence of your layout! (#2)

Challenge H
Take an alphabetical approach to a layout. Experiment with letters on a scrapbook page - and make them your own by embellishing them in a way that suits your scrapbooking personality. (#17)

Challenge I
Need a fun way to start a page? It's easy - start with a number. Make a Top 10 List. Or, look for number-themed accents to build your page around. Numbers are everywhere! Build a page around a telephone number, a shoe size, an age, a year, a good luck number or more! (#38)

Challenge J
Make it Sparkle. I think there's room for something sparkly on almost every page. For this challenge, add a bit of sparkle to your next page. Remember to choose something that fits the mood of your layout and helps express your personality. Use just a little or a lot - whatever best helps tell your story.

Just a little bit of clarification on these: You are allowed to use & reuse these challenges over and over throughout the course of the Elsie challenge. So, you could do brackets around journaling on 3 different layouts and get 10 points for each (30 extra points total). However, you can't get more than 10 points for the same technique on one layout. So, if you had four sparkly things one page - you'd only get 10 points.

Week #2 Challenge

OK Ladies - it's time to get started on our 2nd week of Elsie Challenges. This week's challenge:

Take an Artistic Photo & Scrap It!

For those of you with the book, this is challenge #7. From the mouth of Elsie herself:
"It's easy to capture photographs of family and events. But for this challenge, I want you to look through the lens of your camera as a photo enthusiast. Take a closer glance at things in your life that you might otherwise walk on by. Look for beauty in unexpected places, inside and outside your home!"

You will have two weeks to complete this challenge. The reason for the extension is because you must take a NEW photo for the purpose of this challenge. We're on the honor system here, so please don't use an existing photograph. We're allowing extra time to take the photo and get it printed. Then, you must scrap a layout using the photo. The finished project will be worth 15 points.

Official Due Date: Saturday October 7th at Midnight EST!

Here are some examples for inspiration:
Heaven
Mixed Blessings
Spoiled
Lui
Drive
Skirt
Stones

You can also go to 2Peas and search their gallery with "Elsie Challenge #7" and get another page full of ideas. You can also check out the forum for this challenge, which includes more links. Hope this helps!!

Oh wait - one more important thing to add! Next week, there WILL be another challenge with a regular one week deadline. So, sharpen your time management skills and make sure you're able to do both by Oct. 7th!

Now, get snappin' and then get scrappin'!

Week #1 Results!

Thanks to everyone for a fantastic first week to the "Fallen for Elsie" challenge series!!! We had great participation with 12 of 15 folks creating layouts. Amazingly, there was one lacking from each team. What does that mean??? We almost have a three way tie!!!!!!!

Team Button = 88 points
Team Doodle = 90 points
Team Ribbon = 90 points

It is definitely ANYBODY'S GAME!!!

Point breakdowns are below, just to make sure I didn't miss anyone...

Team Button:
Jill, Andrea, Tammy, and Dianne - 22 points each

Team Doodle:
Holly, Cinda, Lynnise, & Robin - 22 points each
Carrie - 2 points

Team Ribbon:
Melissa, Michelle, Patsy, Jenn - 22 points each
Lu - 2 points

The layouts you all did were truly amazing and inspiring. Thanks so much!

Week #1 - Tammy

Tammy (Team Button) got really creative with her ribbon. Aren't the ribbon flower stems just the cutest??? I also love the colors on this layout! A quick apology - she actually sent this layout in a few days ago and I thought I'd posted it earlier, but I was wrong!

Week #1 - Andrea

Andrea (Team Button) did a great job of grouping together a lot photos on this layout. The red ribbon really pops against the neutral background. Super cute!

Week #1 - Cinda

Cinda (Team Doodle) created a super adorable layout in similar colors to Jill's. I love the frame around the photo and how she tied the ribbons around the large "t". Great work!

Week #1 - Robin

Robin (Team Doodle) created this precious layout using lots of cute school-themed ribbon! I love how the bright school oriented colors stand out against the black background!

Saturday, September 23, 2006

Week #1 - Holly

Here is my layout for Team Doodle! Super simple, but it's another page done in the autism album!

Week #1 - Jill

Isn't Jill's (Team Button) layout the cutest??? She used a ton of ribbon and I love how she created the border around the photo with a little "cluster" accent. I also really like how she combined one key color with white. It really makes the photo pop!

Friday, September 22, 2006

Week #1 - Dianne

And here we go...our first entry from TEAM BUTTON, thanks to Dianne!! She was able to use our challenge technique on not just one layout - but all of her swap layouts!! I really love how she used the ribbon to surround colorblocked areas.

Week #1 - Michelle

Michelle (Team Ribbon) did a fantastic job incorporating a lot of ribbon and pictures onto this super cute page. I love how she added ribbon clusters to photo corners - what a great idea!!! Michelle did note that she will be adding a title in the bookplate. Note: I have no idea why the photo is coming up sideways. When I open it from my computer, it is correct. But when I add it here, it comes up rotated!

Week #1 - Patsy

Check out Patsy's (Team Ribbon) fantastic ribbon-filled layout. She did an amazing job of creating a border around her page, along her photo and unique corners! She definitely gets 20 points (and probably deserves a few extras for all that ribbon LOL!).

Week #1 - Melissa

Melissa (Team Ribbon) called it messy, but I call it just plain...well..."sweet". I love the neutral colors with a splash of red. The somewhat haphazard placement of the ribbon border is tons of fun. Great work for using both techniques (20 points!).

Team Button needs to get scrapping....

Tuesday, September 19, 2006

Week #1 - Lynnise

Lynnise (Team Doodle) created this absolutely stunning layout using both ribbon techniques for this week's challenge (20 points). I love how she incorporated the ribbon cluster into the design. And isn't her striped ribbon an ideal match for her photo?

Week #1 - Jenn K

Here is our first official submission of the challenge!! Jenn K (Team Ribbon!) did an amazing job with applying both ribbon techniques. She took a challenge based on Elsie's whimsical style and turned it into an elegant Christmas layout!

Teams!

We ended up with an odd number of participants, so instead of 2 teams, we are going to have THREE smaller teams. Each team has five members. At the end of the challenge series, each person on the team with the least points will be matched with a person from the team with the most points and they will be responsible for sending them a gift ($10 retail value). The "middle" team doesn't get a prize but doesn't have to buy one either.

Team Button
- Jill
- Dianne
- Andrea
- Tammy
- Mandee

Team Doodle
- Holly
- Lynnise
- Robin
- Cinda
- Carrie

Team Ribbon
- Jenn
- Melissa
- Lureen
- Michelle
- Patsy

Fallen for Elsie - WEEK ONE!

Here we go...time to get this started. I apologize for the teams not yet being assigned, but I'd rather go ahead and get things rolling...

Week One's challenge is to use ribbon in one of two ways (or both). This challenge incorporates 2 of Elsie's Challenges.
#3 - Customize a Ribbon Border
#6 - Create a Ribbon Cluster

You are only allowed to submit ONE layout. If you use one of the above, you will receive 10 points. If you managed to use BOTH on the ONE layout, you will recieve 20 points!

Entries need to be sent to me at
queenbeeofscrap@yahoo.com by midnight EST, Saturday, September 23rd.

Get out that ribbon and start scrapping. For those of you that do not have Elsie's book or maybe just want a bit of inspiration, here are a few examples.

The first layout (Frog) uses a ribbon border and the second (Sisters) uses a ribbon cluster on the large "S".

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!

New Challenge - Fallen for Elsie!!!

Introducing a new ongoing challenge based on the Summer Scrap-Off created by Jenn & Jill…Inspired by Elsie Flannigan’s book 52 Scrapbooking Challenges and in honor of the upcoming fall season, it’s the Fallen for Elsie challenge!

Please read the details below and if you are interested in participating, send me an e-mail at
queenbeeofscrap@yahoo.com by this Friday, September 15th. You will notice that most aspects are very similar to the Scrap-Off. There was such a positive response to how this worked during the summer, we decided to go with something similar.

It is not necessary for you to own Elsie’s book to participate in the challenges. Each challenge will be taken out of her book, but most are self-explanatory. When possible, inspirational pieces will also be provided. Elsie’s book contains 52 challenges and a lot of extras, so obviously not ALL of them will be a part of our challenge series.

This is an ongoing challenge that will most likely begin the week of September 17th and continue through the quarter. It will last 12 weeks, with the conclusion being the week of December 3rd. This will allow everyone some “down time” as the holidays approach.

This will be a team challenge, similar in nature to the Summer ScrapOff. Teams will be formed after all sign-ups are received.

Challenges and entries will be updated on the same blog we used for the ScrapOff as well:
http://www.just-a-little-scrappin-fun.blogspot.com/

There will be one main challenge each week. It will be posted around Sunday morning (though I’m not committing to an exact time) and will be due midnight (EST) the following Saturday.

Each main challenge will be assigned a point value. EVERY participating layout meeting the criteria will earn some points for their team, but depending on the nature of the challenge, some may be worth more than others.

All entries should be a paper scrapbook layout 6”x6” or larger, unless the challenge specifically calls for something else. If you are not sure if a project of yours counts toward a challenge, feel free to contact me with questions.

As is always the case with these fun events, be prepared for extras and surprises along the way…Make sure to check the blog regularly throughout each week!

So, what will you get for all of your hard work and dedication throughout the12 week series? If you are on the winning team, you will receive a gift (retail value of $10) from a member of the opposing team. And of course…there could always be surprises along the way.
I hope everyone is as excited and involved in this as the scrap-off. It will be a ton of fun and I look forward to getting all of your sign-ups!!

Summer Scrap Off Prizes

Okay, as you remember, we all promised to make a layout as a prize for the winners if we lost the Summer Scrap-Off challenge.

So each of the Team Two players has been randomly paired with a Team One player.

If the Team One players will respond to this post with some ideas for layouts they would like, the Team Two players can make you a layout and mail it out.

Let's put September 15th as the mail by date, as long as that is okay with everyone. I KNOW you can all make layouts quickly, lol.

Here's the pairs:
Melissa will make a layout for Tammy.
Jill will make a layout for Holly.
Lu will make a layout for Dianne.
Lynnise will make a layout for Robin.
Patsy will make a layout for Andrea.

Thanks!

And the WINNER of the Summer Scrap Off is.......

TEAM ONE!!!!!
Congratulations, Team One!!!

I don't have exact point totals, since Amanda didn't know if sheneeded to list her choices in order, but mathematically, the only wayfor Team Two to win was to sweep the bonus round. Since two layoutsAmanda picked were on Team One, that makes Team One the winners!

I'll get the match-ups for prizes out to you ASAP.

Here's what Amanda said:

Ok, this was the hardest thing Ive ever had to do! I went over and over and even back over probably a hundred times... Ihad way too many I loved and it wasn't easy at all...... Am I supposedto put these in order? Like 1st 2nd 3rd? this was so hard ....Everyone's layouts were beautiful! I was blown away at all the talent I saw in every layout... Wished I could have at least 8 choices if not10.... That would have made it so much easier....!!! Thank you , forletting me be a part of something so great!!!

Announcing the Summer Scrap-Off MVP

I want to announce this award BEFORE the big bonus points. The bonus points are so HUGE that they'll really skew this award, and I want this award to reflect the team spirit and hard work of the winner. So, without further ado, the MVP awards "ceremony".....

I'll start by describing the competition:

The first competitor our MVP beat was Tamytha, who wasn't able to participate. I only mention it because I want team two to feel proudof themselves for accomplishing so much with essentially 5 players!

Next is Robin, who earned 119 points for her team. She did an amazing job, especially considering she had major surgery in the middle of the game! She especially rocked on the BIG Finale, earning 70 points for her team.

Holly is our next competitor, who earned 120 points. Her fabulous performance on the Silly Scrappin' Challenges and the Finale gave her team a big boost!

Patsy is next, coming in with 150 points. Despite all her camera troubles, she consistently put up points for her team, earning 55 points in one challenge!

Dianne earned 161 points for her team. She amazingly completed EVERY single speed challenge during the BIG Finale, earning 80 points for her team!

Lu came in next with 216 points. She earned 124 of them just on the Scrap By Numbers challenge!

Lynnise put up 230 points. In addition to matching Dianne's feat of all 8 Finale challenges, she placed highly (usually first!) on every judged challenge througout the event!

Andrea earned 241 points, and was the ONLY competitor who earned points in EVERY single round of the challenge. (Remember, the first round had only three competitors earning points!)

Jill earned 312 points. I guess you could call her our Technique Queen, because over 200 of those points were earned in the Silly Scrappin' and Scrap By Numbers challenges!
I earned 367 points.

Melissa got an amazing 377 total points! She participated in every single round of the challenge, but what most people will remember is the way she ROCKED the Silly Scrappin' Challenges! It seemed like very other post had more gorgeous layouts from Melissa!

That brings us to our MVP - the most valuable player of the Summer Scrap-Off.This player earned 415 points for her team. She rocked the Scrapathon, earning 70 points. She went on to earn 195 scrap by numbers points. Most amazing, she created a total of FIFTY SIX layouts for this challenge!!

As you have probably figured out, our MVP is.....

TAMMY!!!!!!!

Congrats, Tammy! I'll be sending a special prize out to you.

Everyone should be SOOO proud of themselves. Just look at the pile of memories you got scrapped over the past eight weeks!

The BIG Finale Points Total - Before Bonus

Okay, there is still one BIG bonus round where our judge, Amanda, will pick her top three favorites from all of the "TBF Challenge" layouts. But before that happens, the current point total is:

Challenge #6

Group 1 - 40 points
Group 2 - 20 points

Challenge #7

Group 1 - 50 points
Group 2 - 30 points

Challenge #8

Group 1 - 60 points
Group 2 - 50 points

So the points currently stand at:
Team One: 1425
Team Two: 1293

Will team one hold on to its lead? Will team two sweep the bonus points and fly past them? Whose scrapping will reign supreme???!!?!? (*ahem* Sorry. Watching too much Iron Chef...)

Stay tuned....
